Let sleeping dogs lie..

Let sleeping dogs lie. Usually this refers to just letting a situation alone for fear that it might make matters worse. The proverbial sleeping dog might just wake up and bite you. Then again, sometimes it is better to jostle things about a bit just to see what rattles. In this case, I am literally referring to my dog. She so very patiently stays with me through all of my wanderings, waiting as I stop to take (hundreds of) pictures, just generally being the loyal dog. This evening, Ezzy waited and waited for what to her must have seemed like an eternity. Sitting on the pier as I snapped pictures, she dosed...always waking if I shuffled in the least bit. Tonight's nap was different, though. After being there for over an hour, I glanced at her. She was sitting next to me sound asleep. Not lying there sleeping, sitting there sleeping. Ezzy has a tendency to be very hyper when she first awakes. She immediately bounces around the room like a pinball. Knowing this, I was so afraid to wake her. There is a big chance that she would have bounced right off that pier into the Bay! So this was really a case of "let sleeping dogs lie (or sit in this case)! Waking her truly would have made matters a lot worse! She continued to nap for about twenty minutes before waking on her own and we could head back to the house.

Today was another rainy, blustery day so it was time for inside work. After cleaning a bit and chopping a mess of okra for the freezer, it was playtime! I am working on several projects at once so will be posting those as I finish them. Today's finished piece is a gourd with inlaid faux turquoise stones. It is an approximately seven inches in diameter "canteen" gourd finished with a coat of wax. This gourd is to be used as a container for dry potpourri or wax chips so it has piercings as part of the design. The inlay process is something relatively new to me, but I would like to learn it well and maybe incorporate stained glass with gourd projects. Let me know what you think of this piece!

  2. I like the texture--the holes as well as the lines and stones. I like the shape and size, too! I think people will like to hold it as well as just look at it . . .

  3. Amy, as soon as I get one finished, I will post a picture. Margaret, I appreciate the critique! You are right, this gourd does have a good "feel" to it.
