I wish I could say that I was fed up with the rat race of the corporate world and gave it all up to live the "simple life". Maybe that I moved to the countryside to free myself from the stress and worries of the everyday world. Although that would make for a great blog, it would not be true. Actually, I was born into the "simple" life and just never left it. I live a fraction of a mile from where I grew up on a small farm. On a farm where we grew our own food, raised cows, chickens and pigs and went barefoot all summer. We worked in the blistering heat of summer and in the icy cold of winter. We did not take off weekends, holidays or have a summer vacation. We did have wonderful family gatherings, picnics in the backyard and remarkable meals. No one ever came to our house that were not urged to "grab a plate", "sit a spell" or "make yourself at home"! We had homemade toys, family sing-a-longs and stories told on the front porch in summer and by the fireplace in winter. There was also homemade bread, hand-me-down clothes and lots of hugs. We were, by far, the richest people in the world! Most of my day now is filled with things that I learned on that farm and I would not have it any other way.
