Trash to Treasure
There is an old saying that "One man's junk is another man's treasure." It rained again today, making it inevitable that I clean house. This is something that I can honestly say I do not enjoy. Anyone that knows me at all can verify that I am a pack rat. Actually, I prefer to be called a collector of things..not any set thing..just things. Many things..things that may one day be useful..hopefully. I have a tendency to save almost everything as I see potential crafting supplies in the most mundane items. Today, I had good intentions of tossing some of my "things". Armed with trash bags, I headed to a little room that most people call a mudroom. One of those nondescript areas that you pass through to get into the main house. The area that is the catchall of anything that you do not want to leave outside but you sure do not want inside. The bad part is, this is the first room everyone enters to visit our house. The first glimpse of our abode. Here, I would begin my dreaded chore. I would toil away the hours until this room was spotless. People would enter and remark "What a darling and CLEAN room this is!" I would smile smugly and shake my head, knowing that it was all too true. That was the plan...it did not happen. As I was cleaning, I came across a (disorderly) stack of wood spindles, the type that are on chairs, tables, beds, etc. Wood turnings that I had salvaged from debris piles after Hurricane Katrina. Garbage! Junk! Trash! Out they go! err..Maybe I should look at them again. The wheels in my head started turning..I could..or maybe it would..let's see, if I just.. Too late, they are now in a pile on my living room floor waiting to become the next craft project. We shall put the quote above to the test and see if this pile of junk will remotely resemble a treasure in the next few days. I can hardly wait to get started creating a thing of beauty or maybe just a thing of interest from my stockpile of goodies. One thing is for sure, this pile is already a treasure to me..I simply adore it! I adore it for no other reason than when I found it, house cleaning came to an abrupt halt! Something new and adventurous had shoved that foolish idea out of my brain!
That picture reminds me of what my dining room set started out as. You sure made something beautiful out of that pile of "junk"!
