The Rose in My Garden

When she was a little girl, Darling Daughter was given a precious book titled "The Rose In My Garden". It was the nicest little story about all of the beauty that could be found in a garden. The book, written by Arnold Lobel and illustrated by Anita Lobel, was one of her favorite books. She would sit and read it over and over again. The illustrations in the book are intriguing and the introduction of a new insect on each page was an interesting touch. The best part, though, was the curiosity that the book generated. Darling Daughter loved wandering in the garden searching for things that were in her book. I believe any book that can draw a child into the garden is well worth reading time and time again. There is so much to learn from Nature but only if the mind is drawn from being corrupted by man-made entertainment. This book definitely had a huge impact on her and encouraged her to see the beauty in her surroundings.

There is a rose in my garden! Actually, there are quite a few roses in my garden..each as gorgeous as the next..each as delightfully scented..each as brilliantly hued..there are roses in my garden! This morning, I was out and about at daybreak. The light, misty fog still lay on the marsh and drifted around the gardens. On this mist, I could smell the sweet scent of the roses. It drew me into the rose garden and directed me to the "Joseph's Coat" rose. This is a climber rose that I just recently planted. It was covered with blooms with more buds soon to open. The one thing that makes this rose stand out against all of the others in the garden is the brilliant color. The bloom actually seems to change colors before your eyes. Orange, red, pink and yellow all can be found on one bloom. The rose does extremely well in full sun with a good soaking of its roots occasionally. If you do plant a Joseph's Coat Rose..be prepared to receive the oohs and ahhs of appreciative garden visitors. This rose is just that gorgeous! The colors are breathtaking..the scent, though light, is divine! After being in the ground for just a few months, it has a profusion of blooms cascading down the branches. Plant it and it will soon become one of your favorites! This is the rose in my garden!
