My Friend, Bob!

What a wonderful day to be alive and kicking here on the Bayou! Not that anything particularly outstanding happened, but I figure that any day that I can get to the pier is incredibly wonderful and today (as usual) I made my way down the board path to the Bay. Hubby was a few feet in front of me when he suddenly stopped and said "Look!" There under the feeder was our friendly quail. He was just a few feet from us but that is not what excited us. Next to Mr. Bob White was Mrs. Bob White! Our sweet little quail had brought his wife to the feeder! This made me so happy! I was truly beginning to believe that this little fellow was a lone quail on the Bayou. He always came running to the feeder by himself..never did we see another quail with him. Now.. the little female has made her presence known!

I am still a bit confused, though. These quail are not your ordinary wild quail..or at least not like any I have ever seen before. Yes, they do look like the wild quail but..well..they just seem a tad too tame. I can almost hand feed these little birds. The little cock has no fear whatsoever of me and will let me as close as three feet. The little hen is a bit more leery but perhaps since this is her first visit she is not sure of my intentions. I will keep trying to befriend them and perhaps soon, I shall be able to hand feed them! I am just so happy to see that there is a pair of them and maybe sometime soon..an entire family will call my yard home!

While in the garden a few days ago, I came across a most unusual looking rock. At first, I thought that it might be a piece of thick plastic that was washed in with Hurricane Katrina's flood waters but upon closer inspection, this assumption proved false. I washed off all of the excess dirt and found that the rock almost had a honeycombed appearance. Not that there are holes in it..just sort of evenly spaced bubble-looking things or crystally-looking things. I am no geologist so I have no earthly idea just what sort of rock this might be or what caused it to have such evenly spaced designs in its makeup. I do think it is quite pretty and so I stuck it on the shelf with all of the other neat little doodads that I have picked up from the yard. If there are any armchair geologists out there that might know just what this rock might be or how I could find out why it was suddenly in the Marigolds, send me a message! I would love to know! It is only about the size of a lima bean so I guess I should really just call it a pebble but being countrified everything found on the ground that is stonelike hard is a rock!
