Just bobbing along..

This afternoon I had enough! I was hot, tired and ready to quit work..so I did just that! I had been working all day trimming the rose garden and raking leaves that are already starting to fall. Being so dry, the dust was horrible..the weedeater stirred up a cloud of dust particles that soon settled down on the sweat of my brow. Ugh..what a mess..I must have been a pretty sight! Like I said it was hot! Too hot to be working, so.. I went fishing instead!
As I wandered down the board path to the pier, I was soon met by Ezzy. She had been out doing her usual dog stuff of chasing squirrels, sniffing the ground and staring at trees. But now! Now she wanted to go fishing with me! She knew that on the pier she might be treated to a few of the minnows that I use for bait. For some reason, this dog loves to eat raw fish and will eat every minnow that I toss to her. She always waits patiently until I throw the net and then paces expectantly back and forth while I toss the bait into the water-filled bucket. I am not sure if minnows are particularly healthy for her to be eating but she would rather have those than the doggie treats bought at the store. (And I don't mind! These are a lot cheaper!) While I fished, she and I watched as the Night Heron bobbed for minnows under my brother's pier. I wondered if this was the same one that comes to eat the minnows that I catch. Usually, I can hand-feed the Night Heron but I have not had the honor of it's visit yet this summer.
Today, something saddened me, though, while on the pier. Lately, there has been a fishing cork bobbing around in the Bay. When Ezzy and I were fishing, this cork came floating in near the pier. Obviously, someone had hooked a fish that broke the line and took off with the whole shebang..hook, line, sinker and cork. Now this poor fish is stuck dragging this contraption around trying to survive. I have been seeing this cork for about two weeks now and know the fish is bound to be hurting. Every time it is within range, I try to toss my line over it. I would so love to snag that line and catch the fish. Not that I would keep the fish, just the opposite..I want to release it. I figure that it deserves a better chance at surviving than what it has now. Poor thing. Again today, I watched until it was within range. I tossed my line but it startled the poor fish and off it went, dragging that awful cork behind it. I am not sure just how much longer the fish can deal with having the cork attached to it but I will keep trying to help it. Some day maybe I will be successful!
