Happiness in a box!

There is an idiom that states the "The best things come in small packages!" I am here to refute that statement and as proof, I can offer the following!..... I received three...yes, three..very large boxes a couple of days ago! These boxes were filled with what I deem as "the best things ever"! On the way home from work, Mark (my husband) picked up three forty-five pound boxes of sweet potatoes. When he and Son started toting those boxes into the kitchen, you would have thought they were bringing in crates of jewels! I was elated to say the least! Some folks might find it a bit strange that I would actually rather have those boxes filled with sweet potatoes than the jewels but as pretty as jewels may be, you sure cannot eat those cold rocks! I suppose that my happiness revolves around that kitchen table!

As a kid growing up on the farm, we always had a ready supply of these fine tuberous roots! I can remember the wonderful aroma that would waft through the house whenever Mom or Dad would toss a dozen or so in the oven. As they cooked, the smell would fill the house and we all knew that for supper that night the soft, syrupy glob of golden goodness would fill our plates! Oh, what a memory! Oh, how delightful it was to see these beauties come into my kitchen! Oh, guess what we are having for supper tonight! Yep! Sweet potatoes...nice, squishy-done, syrup-laden sweet potatoes loaded with just the right amount of butter! Ahh..life just doesn't get any better than this!

I was happy to find that these were good ole Mississippi-grown sweet potatoes! I must admit that I have an infinity for things grown in my home state or at least in the Deep South. Last year, Mark bought the potatoes in Louisiana and they were wonderful! There is just something to be said for Southern foods! Think about it...some Blackened Red Fish, a baked sweet potato, some Mustard greens and maybe a nice scoop of Crowder peas along with cornbread! Now doesn't that just make you hungry? It does me! Yep..this is proof that some of the best things do come in large packages..at least in large boxes labeled "Mississippi Sweet Potatoes"!
