After a storm washes in here on the Bayou, a mass of debris is left behind. This was especially the case with Hurricane Katrina. Mountains of debris literally buried the yard. (In some places, it was a good ten or fifteen feet deep!) Dealing with this debris was sort of like a treasure hunt for me. Treating it in this manner helped me cope with the stress and despair of the aftermath of such a terrible blow. I could look at some oddity that had washed ashore and ponder over just what use I could make of it instead of dwelling on the destruction. I met each find with a certain eagerness and soon had quite a mound of "good intentions" piled near the back door. Surely, I would find a use for everything that I saved! Surely.....
Now nearly seven years later, I am in the process of getting rid of a whole slew of useless things that I collected! I had fully intended to "some day make use of these things!" Yeah, right! Some of this stuff is way beyond being used for anything! Getting rid of the junk is easy but then there are the things that are unique, hard to come by or just so bizarre that trashing them will be difficult! I can happily part with the old boards..those have rotted and are definitely bound for the burn pile! I have no problem trashing the remaining pieces of broken furniture..I have already refurbished all that could be salvaged! My dilemma comes when I try to discard the....street lamps. Yep, I did say street lamps. Hurricane Katrina deposited a number of street lamps in the yard among all of the other debris. Let me explain that these are not the actual light but rather the large globes that cover the bulb. There is just something intriguing about those globes! They are huge! Each stands a good thirty inches in height and has a diameter of about eighteen inches. The globe is made of a hard, heavy plastic and is topped with a four-inch-tall, black finial. "I can do something with these!" was my first thought when I saw them! Now today, either I have to come up with an ingenious art project or toss my quaint (ridiculous) street lamp globes! My brain was just not working in high gear this morning so I quickly sent pictures of the street lamps to my nieces. Surely with their collective creative minds, something will click! An idea will pop up and my street lamps will be turned into pieces of art! These quirky finds will not wind up in the dumpster with the dozen or so purple jello molds that I also saved from the storm debris!
