My camera is being its usual fickle self and not letting me view all of the pictures that I take. Yesterday, what has been a mere aggravation became a huge problem. I was taking pictures of my granddaughter and "lost" quite a number! That would never do! Being in Georgia at the time, my "resident expert of technical things" (better known as my son) was not at hand. Well, he has always told me to "play" with these types problems to see if I can figure out what can be done. "You cannot break anything that I cannot fix." he once told me. (I am trying...I am trying!)
Well, as I tinkered with the camera, a surprise suddenly popped up in view. Several pictures that I had taken back in April were now readily available! One of these was a tiny bird named Yellow Rumped Warbler. This wee bird is mostly grey but has a slight blush of yellow on its rump and breast. Flocks of these little birds visit the Bayou in the early spring. I usually photograph most every bird that can be found around the marshes just because I find them fascinating. The little warbler was no different. I had photographed it but the camera "ate" my pictures! Now my tinkering has given back my photographs from months and months ago.
What caught my eye about the almost nondescript bird was the fact it appeared to be so young. All of the others seemed to be twice the size of the little guy. Yellow Rumped Warblers normally breed and nest as far north as Canada and here I have a wee one during migration. I photographed the bird!
I have no idea if this was a fluke of nature or whether the bird was actually much older than it appeared. The tiny little fellow perched itself between the span of a Y branch. It was busy hunting the flying ants that had also decided to do a bit of "migration". Ants were swarming the hillside over and the entire flock of warblers were feasting! Little bit feasted as well.
When I found the picture today, I thought this little bird was just too cute not to share. A group of Yellow Rumped Warblers is sometimes called a "Confusion". I admit, I was confused about the little bird and how he came to be at the Bayou at such a weird time! "Y"...just why?
