Into the Storm!

Yesterday saw us in the midst of a pounding storm.  The wind whipped about the Little Bayou House with such an intense fury that it felt not unlike a tropical system.  Rains pelted us and we even had intermittent hail.  Tornado warnings were sounding occasionally alerting us all of the impending danger.  This was not one of those "in and out" squalls.  It was one of all day and most of the night proportions.   It was a wild time on the Bayou.

During the late afternoon, I noticed that the small skiff was bouncing about on the waves.  After much insistence, Mark finally agreed that we should check its moorings so down the hill we went.  Sure enough, one of the cleats had already been ripped from the boat causing one end to swing free.  This could have been bad if there had been a shift in wind direction. The decision to pull the boat up into the march seemed to be the wise one.  After much tugging this feat was accomplished but not before we were being pelted with another round of rain.  Just before we hauled the boat in, I had noticed that the winds were swirling in weird directions.  I felt a certain uneasiness at being on the pier..something that never has occurred before.

One strange looking cloud during the storm yesterday!

By the time we were heading back up the hill, the rain had caught us. The increasing winds were knocking small limbs down around us as we hurried up the board path.  THIS was not a time that we needed to be outside!  This called for the safety that the Little Bayou House could provide for us.  We hurried.

After changing into dry clothes and making a steaming hot cup of coffee, I sat at the window in the living room.  Here I could watch the storm as it raced across the Bay.  It felt grand to be inside!  Then I heard the news that at the very same time we were tugging that boat, a tornado warning had been issued for our area!  Yep, I knew that there was a reason for the apprehension that I felt whilst on that pier!
