It Takes a "Trained Technician"

I ponder the logic behind a lot of things nowadays.  It seems that without some title, a person just cannot do a simple task and every task has to have a "Trained Technician".  Whatever happened to good old commonsense?  What ever happened to "do it yourself"?  Whatever happened to...oh, nevermind.  Just once, I would love to see someone who will do a task that is not necessarily in their "job description".  Pet peeve of the day...people who are far overpaid, who have a "title" and who do not accomplish a single thing that cannot be done by any ordinary person.

Take today, for instance.  Today, A huge truck came backing into the lane.  This, by far, was overkill in the first degree since this truck was delivering a clock.  I figured that perhaps the truck was loaded with parcels to be delivered after our clock.  Nope.  When the guy threw open the back of the truck, a lone box stood in the wide open space that could have possible held a mid-sized car, a herd of cattle and at least several elephants.  Instead, there stood a single box.  The guy whipped out his dolly and toted that box into the house.  Hmmm. Where do I put a clock?  Why in the spare bedroom of course! Actually, this is a clock that Mark got for our daughter, Elizabeth.  Since she and Robbie do not have a house yet, I am storing the clock along with all of their other belongings.  So the clock will stand in her old room.  The delivery guy was quite adept at what he does obviously as he managed to steer that huge thing into the hall and make a sharp turn into the room.  He uncrated the clock and gathered up the discarded cardboard and other trappings.  "There is your clock." he said. "You will have to wait for the "Trained Clock Technician" to come and start it."  What?  A Trained Clock Technician to start a clock?  Well, that is about the silliest thing that I have ever heard!

I could perhaps understand if this was some highly intricate piece of work but this "clock" is nothing more than a curio cabinet with a battery operated clock face stuck inside.  No gears, no pendulum, no keys...just a single AA battery.  Yep, that takes a skilled professional if there was ever one needed!  The idea that it takes someone special to start this clock amuses me.  For the clue hunt, I have approximately thirty clocks on one wall.  Not once did I have qualms about "starting" these clocks and several of them are the antique sort that need key winding and gentle pendulum swinging.  Yep, this battery operated clock is some intense deal!

When I told Michael, our son, about the "Trained Clock Technician" that was to come "start" our clock, he merely shook his head.  "Well, it does take a lot of skill to insert that battery!"  Yep, we sure do not want to make a mistake about that!  "Trained Clock Technician"!  Bah! Sounds to me like another overpaid, do-nothing person to me.  Oh well, now I have to give up another morning of garden work just to wait on this "professional" to come do his job. All for one AA battery...geez. It is quite a beautiful curio cabinet, though!
