This past Thursday as I was heading down the pier, the weather decided to pull a fast one on me. It was a bit unusual as things changed in the snap of a finger. When I neared the water's edge, the sun was happily rising in the east. There were a few clouds lingering from overnight which led to hopes of a shower by the end of the day. With a few more steps, I noticed that things were starting to change rapidly. Coming from the east was a massive fog bank. It rolled across the water at a high pace and was soon enveloping me with its icy, dampness. Brr! That was some fast moving system. In less than five minutes, a whiteout fog had taken over the entire Bay. Fishermen were hidden in the shroud, pelicans took refuge on the pier posts and I shivered as droplets of water started gathering on my face.
It gives one a strange feeling, indeed, when the entire world is taken from view in a matter of minutes. Things become gray and devoid of color. An uneasy feeling comes with the heaviness of the fog. Birds quieten, the breeze comes to a standstill and all hunker down to wait until the morn returns.
I sat for a moment just enjoying the solitude before my busy day began. No matter the weather, I still find serenity on the Bayou.
