Playful Pups
One of my favorite times on the Bayou is at sunrise. If I can break loose and head to the pier to watch the sunrise, my whole day is much better. The sunrises in fall and winter far surpass those of the other seasons and the lower tides bring many critters out to forage. The other morning, however, it was not low tide but critters still put on a spectacular sideshow! The morning began like any other. The sun was rising in the east, a cool breeze had set a heavy dew on the pier boards and the birds were out catching their breakfast. It was not long before a couple...or quite a few...other critters joined us. Out of a small cut in the marsh grass, an otter tumbled out into the water. The critter swam about a bit and then started barking at me. While it seemed a bit unnerved that I was on the pier, the otter continued to play about the area. Then...another otter came into the water...and another...and another. Soon six otters were frolicking in the water just beneath the pier!
My video skills are lacking but the effort had to be made! Filming the otters at play was difficult simply because I kept giggling at their antics. Once they moved under my brother's pier, they began feeding instead of playing but that still appeared to be all in fun. Not once did any of the otters squabble with the others and several times, they appeared to actually share a small fish. The otters definitely added a bit of delight to my morning! It also made me aware of the fact that I definitely need to practice my video skills. I apologize for the poor quality of the film. Blame it on the giggles!
