The little "No Name Prince" (foster kitten) has sort of endeared himself to us so it appears that he will perhaps be staying. Now comes the problem of maybe getting him a name. It has occurred to me that naming a critter is all for the person and not so much for the critter. The nameless cat is just as happy without a name as it will be once it has one. I have put off naming him because everyone says "Once you name it, the cat belongs to you." I did not want another critter. I have another critter now. The No Name Prince is bound to stay here after this long of fostering him.
I will say this about the creature that is worming his way into our lives...he is a smart little thing. In his short time here, he has learned a schedule of feeding, playing and napping. He has learned not to get on tables, to stay only in the living room (for the time being as we are doing construction projects in the other part of the house) and to be accepting of bath-time and bedtime. Bedtime comes at 8:30 every night and he goes to the big, old dog crate where he sleeps. He is very receptive about being in the crate and actually puts himself to bed. Bath-time is my idea. Just in case we ever need to bathe the cat, I wanted him receptive to that, as well. He has no problems with it, at all! He is sure a lot easier to bathe than either of the dogs we had in the past. In fact, I think he rather enjoys it.
Son and I went through a list of possible names and came up with nothing. It has never been hard to name anything before and I am perplexed as to why it is hard with this little fellow. Perhaps it is that whole "I am not ready for another pet" syndrome or perhaps we just have not hit upon the perfect name. The grandlittles both had sweet suggestions, however. Mary Ruth came up with "Moonshine" and Mark Charles hit upon the unique "Chalk Cutie". Ummhmm....well, alrighty then! I am still trying to figure out how to smash them together as to not hurt either's feelings. Moon Chalk? Shiny Chalk? Moon Cutie? Shiny Cutie? Well....No Name Prince might just stay nameless for a while longer.
