In spite of the flooding rains that made the water in the Bay quite fresh, Mark has been catching a number of redfish. This has kept us well fed and even has replenished the freezers a bit. Some of the fish have been rather large, in fact, making it possible to feed the family on just a single fish. It is surprising as these usually prefer salty water.
Yesterday morning, however, it was a different story. While throwing the net for little mullet to use as bait for the larger redfish, he caught two redfish in the net! This ordinarily would have been somewhat of a tussle had the fish been the size of the ones he was catching on hook and line. Instead, these could have possibly been used for bait themselves! These were two of the tiniest redfish I have ever seen! They were a grand total of maybe three inches in length. Tiny little fingerling fish must be filling the Bayou.
While Mark was contemplating using these as bait, I just could not let that happen. When he was busy casting the net again, I "accidentally" let the fish slide over the side of the pier. Ooops! Those little guys need to grow a bit before I use them for anything. Swim free, little fishies, swim free!
