That's One Loud Clock!

My husband, Mark, has been doing most of our Christmas shopping this year. Since I hate shopping with a passion and he sort of likes being in the stores, this works out rather well. He usually handles this with ease and often brings home extra goodies. This has its benefits but sometimes can have its drawbacks...like the other day. He was on a wild goose chase for some random object that I probably mentioned at some point in time. Darling Daughter and I used to call these "Pomegranate Runs". She and I would send him in search of something so we could either wrap the presents for him or bake him a "surprise" cake or some such time. For years we would ask him to find some "organically-dyed pomegranate-colored yarn" or "sugar-free pomegranate flavored candy" or even "pomegranate seed wafers with cinnamon topping". None of these things were likely to be found as they are probably not even real objects but he was always the good sport about the hunt! This search would get him out of the house long enough for us to get the "secret" job done! I think he finally caught on to our methods and our "Pomegranate Runs" were no longer much use. Actually, the shopping trip the other day, was not a "Pomegranate Run" set up to get him out of the house, it was just the usual "last-minute-shopping-got-to have" type run. While out searching the many stores and shops, he came across something that he thought I would love..a musical kitchen clock decorated with snowmen. Granted..I needed a new kitchen clock. My old one had met an "untimely" death..(pun intended!). However, this clock plays Christmas carols every hour on the hour...loudly! It is not so noticeable during the noisy day but at night...oh, my goodness..at night, it seems like I have a carillon in the living room! Those chimes seem to echo through the house all the while vibrating the windows! Well, perhaps that is a bit of an exaggeration, but it IS loud!

One other unusual thing about this loud caroling, snowman-decorated clock, it is "allergic" to the cold! It has a problem playing its carols when the temperature of the house drops below 60 degrees! I do not actually consider this as a problem, though, since it does help with the noise level at night! During Winter, our house gets quite chilly at night as the temperature drops and the fires in the woodstoves dwindle. I have noticed that our musical clock refuses to play during this drop in temps..which seems to be a bit ironic since the clock is decorated with snowmen! (At least this quietens it down a bit when we are trying to sleep!) The one big advantage of having this clock? ....One more month and then the LOUD, carol-playing, snowman-decorated kitchen clock can be packed away with the other decorations! .....No, really, Hon, I love my new clock....honestly..but please do not buy me another musical clock to replace this one. Especially not one that plays "Old MacDonald had a Farm" with all of the animals doing the singing....please?
