Creative Minds Think Alike..or Are You Crazy???

Somewhere in the back of our minds, most of us have this understanding that things could be more useful. If only we would try, some/most of the stuff we call trash could be put forth to a new use. Perhaps it takes a good bit of creativity to find this use but it would do the Earth wonders if we all would try now and again to recycle. My problem...I tend to believe almost everything has another use. This applies to any item that has once served a function and is destined for the trash bin. "NO! Don't throw that out! I may be able to make something out of it!" These are words that some of my family members are sure to tire of hearing. Except for Darling Daughter! She has this same inherited trait! A trait that must have been passed down for generations to finally be bestowed upon her! I am so proud! Proud to have someone carry on the tradition! I was once told that I was "Green" before it was popular to be so. At that time, I was not sure that it was a compliment. (I had to research just what this "Green" was all about! And, hey, I AM "Green"!) I just feel that there is far too much waste in the world and if we would all put forth just a smidgen of effort, something might be made a bit better.

All of this leads me to the point of the day. I was out wandering the hill when down near the pier, I found a treasure! Not the type that most would even deem worthy of noticing but a treasure in my eyes! I was sure that I had found something that could be or would be upcycled into some useful and interesting object. I just had no idea what at the moment. My treasure was in the form of an empty oyster sack. Yep..a nasty, dirty burlap sack that Mark had used to tote oysters home so the could be shucked. He had ripped open the sack, dumped out the oysters and threw the sack to the side. It was done for...trash..garbage. Until a month later...I saw it! Now to be honest, this is not the first use of this burlap sack. This particular sack had at one time been used to carry cocoa..or at least as near as I can make out from the labeling! Most of the oystermen here on the coast use this type of sack to bag their catch and bring it to market. Now this old sack is headed for a new use. When I sent Elizabeth a picture of my find and asked her if she thought we might recycle or upcycle the tired old sack, she responded with an excited "Yes!" To be honest, she had no idea exactly what we would do with it either but we both agreed that it was a treasure! So I shook and shook to get rid of any loose shell pieces and mud (and critters). The sack will be washed several times to deodorize it and then our creative minds will work together to find the exciting new purpose for this treasure! I mean..my goodness!..who could not see that this was a fine example of a perfectly decent find! NO! It is not a dirty, stinky, old oyster sack...it is some fine tote bag..or wall-hanging..or floor mat...or....ummmm.....???
