The Beast is a Beauty!

Mark and I were out behind the house working on a shed (or at least thinking about it!) when I suddenly heard a several Blue Jays causing a major ruckus! They were firing calls back and forth near the edge of the marsh. As we listened more and more birds were joining in on the melee until there were probably more than two dozen of all sorts. Blue Jays, Woodpeckers, Titmice and even the Wrens were calling alarms and darting between the branches of a few of the trees. I wondered just what could have that many birds up in arms, so to speak. What in the world would make so many different birds join forces to alert the avian community? Before I could investigate, a squirrel joined in on the commotion! This was fast becoming an alliance of good versus bad..or so it seemed. I decided that I definitely needed to check this disturbance!

I stood up from the step where we were sitting, I immediately spied the source of all this "Critter Neighborhood Watch" action! There, near a small Palmetto, was a huge cat! At first glance, I thought this might just be the Bobcat that I have fleetingly seen in the woods near the creek. To get a better view, I eased my way to the edge of the shed construction. The partial structure would give me cover without obstructing my vision. When I stepped up onto the floor, I could see much better and realized that this was not a Bobcat. It is a beautiful, large, male cat but not the elusive Bobcat. I will have to wait for the pictures of that one! I settled on taking many photos of this new kitty on the hill! Of course, this new arrival needed a moniker so Bob came to mind! Bob Cat! Bob sat there patiently while I snapped photo after photo. He even "blocked" me out by closing his eyes like Ms. Put does when I irritate her by taking too many pictures!

Bob Cat and I shared a good ten minutes of mutual respect of each other's presence. He and I stared at each other and never tried to invade the other's territory. I talked to him and he cocked his head as if to listen to my chattering. A bit later when I was in the kitchen, I could hear his low gurgle as he wandered through the the potato patch. His meow (if it could be called that) was much deeper than any cat's I have ever heard. This was one beast of a cat! But oh, my goodness! Was he ever a beauty!
