The Reason....

It was such a lovely day on the Bayou! The sun was shining, the temperature was in the seventies and there was a slight breeze blowing in from the Bay. I took the dogs out for a romp and then while they were playing in their pool, I weeded the Daffodils. This was not a difficult task on a day like this as I would much rather be outside than stuck doing housework! The Daffodils have not bloomed well this year but I still wanted the garden to look neat and trim. It was full of betony with all of its glorious roots! As I weeded I came across the occasional piece of broken glass or nail but I was not prepared for the big find of the day. There in between the Daffodils was a huge iron spike. The thing was nearly a foot long and well...heavy as lead! I pulled it from the dirt and stared at it for a few moments. I pondered. Daffodils, Good Friday, Spike....the coincidence is a tad uncanny. Hmmmm...did I find this huge spike on Good Friday for a reason? Was there some hidden meaning that needed to be deciphered?

This is Good Friday. The Friday before Easter Sunday. The Friday that the Christian belief states that Christ was crucified. The Friday that He died for our sins. The Friday that He was nailed to the cross. Was He "nailed" to the cross with a spike such as this? I stared at the spike and tried to fathom the agony He must have endured..all for us. Then another thought...the spike was found in the Daffodil garden. Daffodils, according to legend, symbolize "rebirth or a new beginning". Well, that is rather interesting in itself, for what is Easter? The Resurrection of Christ could possibly be deemed a rebirth. The Crucifixion was to give us a new beginning..a Spiritual Rebirth. Good Friday, Daffodils, Spike...should I be thinking this is a sign? I pondered.

I am one who believes that all things happen for a purpose. Somewhere in this jumble, there must be some reason..some definite reason..that I found this spike. Perhaps it is to just nail my faith a bit tighter..a bit stronger..a bit more secure.
