The daily pattern of heat, high humidity and evening thunderstorms has hit the Bayou. During the daytime hours the temperatures rise to near (if not above) 100 and with the humidity hovering near 90%, that makes it quite stifling. Our chores are best finished in the morning because being outside after that had better be spent not working. Son and I worked yesterday building a deck on the back of the greenhouse and clearing some brush between there and the shed. It was not an easy task and required many water breaks. Since we wanted to complete the deck, it was nigh on noon before we quit. Both of us were drenched in sweat.
By late afternoon, the clouds start to build and thunder starts to roll. Lightning strikes are most terrific with a good many making contact. Several trees have been split asunder by the force of the lightning. It is a good time to be inside where it is safe and sound. The good thing about these storms is that it does cool the air a bit. Temperatures drop dramatically in just a few minutes making for a much cooler night.
At the moment, thunder grumbles off in the distance and threatens to douse us once again. The sky is black. It is all good, though. Life giving waters will fall upon the gardens and revive the plants that were wilted by the day's heat. Thunder on, Storm, thunder on! You are welcome here.
