As I am sitting here listening to the winds roar outside on the Bayou, I am thankful for the security that the Little Bayou House provides. This early spring storm is quite intense as it has the windows rattling, tree limbs smacking the rooftop and occasionally some pretty potent lightning. Earlier, I was able to coax both cats inside for the night as Son secured the small skiff. He brought up the pier benches and made his way around the yard removing anything that might become airborne. It is just going to be that kind of night. Rough weather and bayou life go hand in hand. We prepare for the worst and pray for the best outcome of each storm. So far this system has seen success. I am also praying that this early storm is not a precursor of things to come. With hurricane season sneaking closer each month, I can only hope for a mild season once again. In the meantime, I am snug as a bug inside the Little Bayou House praying for all that are in the path of this storm. It is going to be a rough one.
Earlier this morning, I was able to sneak out to the greenhouse for a few minutes. As soon as I opened the door, a delightful aroma wrapped itself around me. The two small lemon trees were in full bloom....again. Just two weeks ago, I was fully surprised by finding blooms and now, again, the trees are covered with flowers...plus lemons! Obviously, some bees have been happily working inside the greenhouse! The blooms from the first go round pollinated to give us a dozen or so fat lemons. Now with the hundreds more blooms, I almost pity the small bushes. I am thinking that some will have to be removed to assure the proper growth of the fruit. These small bushes will reside in the greenhouse for another year to give them time to retain good root stock. Next winter, they will find their proper spot in the yard.
Also residing in the greenhouse is the busy, little wren. They nested in the watering can last summer and have already remade that nest. To be honest, the pair have made three new nests in the greenhouse, too. We will just have to wait and see which Mama Wren chooses as her current abode. The little wrens have become accustomed to my presence and continued with their nest-building even while I was watering the plants. It is always fun to watch the little ones as they learn the fine art of flight. At least inside the greenhouse, they can do this in relative safety. Good job, Mama and Daddy Wren. You know where to build a snug home for your little ones!
