The brazen antics of the squirrels are getting a bit too much. This afternoon, the old cat slept peacefully on the lawn chair. While she was dozing, a gray squirrel came down the oak tree next to her and chattered up a storm. He fussed at the cat for being in his path. Since Ms. Put is almost deaf now, she never awoke. As I watched, the squirrel could not leave well enough alone. Instead of sneaking around the cat and going on his merry way, he edged closer and closer to her. I thought sure that the rascal was going to pounce on her at any moment. If it had not been for a sneeze that I could not contain, there is no telling how close the pesky squirrel would have gotten to the cat. I sneezed, the squirrel ran and the cat just kept sleeping.
The squirrel did not scamper far, though. A sneeze is just not enough of a threat, I suppose. It merely shimmied up the driftwood "tree" that holds a bird feeder. There that rascal started scolding me. The feeders are empty, he was hungry and I imagine he just thought I was lazy.
