I have yet to figure out why people think it is their business what others do. It makes more sense to watch your own actions and keep your ugly thoughts to yourself. Grandpa always used to say "When you go pointing fingers at others, you have four pointing back at you." That makes sense to me. Finding fault with others is merely a way of trying to get folks to not notice your flaws. Simply put...mind your own business. For the past year or so, there has been a handful of people who have criticized the way I do things all the way from my purple hair (only dyed temporarily for the clue hunt) to the way I keep house. Others have found fault with my choice of furniture, wall color and even how I decorate! Some have even gone so far as to make "suggestions" as to how things can be "improved". Nope. Things are great on this end so nothing will change unless I choose it to do so. I admit that the Little Bayou House is a bit different as am I. I like it that way. As matter of fact....I liked my purple hair and all the aforementioned things. Might as well make folks wonder about why things are the way they are!
Today while I was out with the old dog, a splash of red and yellow caught my eye. Curiosity got the best of me so I had to meander over to the spot in the yard to admire a single leaf. On the ground was one leaf from the black gum tree. The leaf stood out vividly against the browns and faded greens of the ground. This tiny leaf made a great impact on an otherwise boring setting and it got me to thinking. Why do I have to be shaped and decorated like everyone else in their cookie cutter world? Nope! I do not. You do not either. Being different is what makes an impact. Being like everyone else...well...makes you boring.
So a small leaf taught an important lesson today. Why not stand out in the crowd? Dare to be different! Dare to be the person you really want to be. Let the naysayers be their miserable selves and you be the important INDIVIDUAL you are! Love yourself and shine on! Perhaps I should dye my hair green this time!
