You often hear of dogs that will "collect" items and stash them in odd places. In fact, our old Bayou Dog, Ms. Ez, would gladly take treats only to stash them under the sofa. She never refused a treat but never ate a single one, either. When moving the sofa to clean one day, I found her hiding spot. There were nigh on eighty treats stashed among the dust bunnies! Needless to say, we changed treats. She no long received the standard "store-bought" ones. I gave her marshmallows and the hoarding came to a halt. She ate every one and begged for more. Like I said, it is not unusual to hear of a dog hoarding things but a cat? Well, meet Bat.
Yep, we have a kleptomaniac for a cat. The Bayou Prince has an affinity for any item left unattended. He steals socks (especially dirty socks!), keys, phone chargers, shoes (yes, shoes and even boots), wash cloths, scrubbers and, of all things, an iron oarlock. Bat takes them all and hides them in his cat carrier. I have warned everyone. "If something is missing, follow the cat." Today, it was my scrubber. Yesterday, I could not find my flashlight. Bat had them. My Bayou Prince is a klepto-cat!
