Dreary Day Dreaming!

Oh, my goodness! It was a dreary day on the Bayou! It threatened but did not quite rain all day. The wind blew something fierce and although it was not cold, it was quite uncomfortable being outside. I took a few short walks with the dog and gathered in a couple of armloads of firewood but other than that, I stayed inside. I would stand and stare out the window..wishing that I was on the pier or roaming about the hill. The day seemed to drag..all of this staying inside was giving me a bit of cabin-fever. To make matters worse, I have already finished all of the kumquats so I had nothing pressing to finish. There was no marmalade to jar, no gourds to be finished before a deadline and no projects that needed tending. Soon bored with the daily chores, my mind started seeking out some sort of pleasurable pastime. That was when I spied the new seed catalog that my brother just sent to the house! Ooooh! Planting time is still a spell off but one can never have enough time to plan! I always love to dream and plan just what will go in the little garden patches!

I have saved a goodly number of seeds from last year's crops so I really do not need to order many if any but it is just far too exciting to plan a garden plot! Every year I have big plans..when I am ordering seeds I over order and wind up with more seeds than row space. I really need to learn to curtail my seed purchases but everything just looks so remarkable in the catalog. With the drabness of Winter lingering around, I need things to brighten my days and today's brightener was this menu of future vegetables! Tomatoes! Corn! Green Beans! Peas! oooh...Cucumbers, Squash, and Okra! Of course, there has to be Bell Peppers and Watermelons! Maybe a few Cantaloupes should be attempted again this year! This is going to be the best garden we have had in years...barring the drought or floods! As you can tell, I am bit excited about the seed catalog and the prospect of an early garden! I guess when you are bored and cabin-fever is grabbing hold, any bit of reminder of the outdoors is great.

After flipping through the magazine several times, I decided that I had better leave the ordering to Son. After all, he is the one that will be digging all the rows and at the rate I was eyeing the seeds, our garden space would have needed to be at least tripled! Pop always used to tell me that I should garden within my means. I suppose he was right..well..so much for dreaming! Hmmm....another herb garden....surely we can manage that! Basil, Oregano, Ginger....hmmmm??
