Another Alien is in the House!

  Never...I repeat...NEVER leave aliens alone!  Especially when there are two aliens!  Those little green beings multiply.  Several years ago, a tiny lime green alien was found hiding in the corner of the living room.   I had no problem with his presence but, try as I might, my smalltalk did not receive a response.  I merely wanted to find out where he was from and why he decided that my living room was now his domain.  Since I received no satisfactory answers, I merely shrugged the shoulders and left him be.  I must admit that seeing a glowing figure in the corner of the living room was a bit unsettling at first but I sort of grew to like the little guy over time.  His presence soon became natural and I never questioned his existence further.  Then....

  About a year later, another tiny green alien joined the first.  Even though this one was a bit different, I assumed they knew each other and my first friend had sent for his "wife" (if aliens have wives.)  Her head was a bit different shape so I figured that was how to tell male from female.  Her head was slightly heart shaped and he had large green ears(?).  Ok, so now I had two glowing entities in the Little Bayou House. This was beginning to get a bit crowded but, whatever, if my friend was happy, then all was well.  Two tiny beings are not that bad and, well, they are quiet and unobtrusive (except for the glowing and the fact that their eyes are so black.)  I welcomed the newcomer and thought of how lucky I was to be the only household that had a pair of aliens!  Then....

  This morning, I arose before daylight to find that my aliens have been busy!  A third, even tinier, alien had appeared!  I have a family of aliens that have now taken up residence on the window ledge behind the reed blinds.  They seem to cherish the warmth of the morning sun and perhaps even gleam a bit brighter each night because of their basking!   Hopefully, this little family will not expand further and not take up too much room.  I was pondering if I should build them a tiny alien house but, then again, I have no idea what to build and they seem to be doing rather well without one.

  To be honest, I really have no idea how these little plastic, glow-in-the-dark aliens keep appearing.  Every few months, a new one starts glowing at night and I stick it on the window ledge with the others.  I am sure they are leftover toys from when my kids were little but it does seem a tad strange that I suddenly find them again.  It is always in the middle of the night and always when I am up investigating some strange noise.  Bump, Rattle, Bang!  Another alien is in the house!

Blue Glowy Things..again!

Deep in the night by the light of only the moon, objects can take on a whole different appearance.  Things that lurk in the Bayou, whether they be live or inanimate, can sometimes be quite creepy.  Perhaps it is just the idea of being out on the marsh without the ability to fully distinguish what something is.  Case in point, those little glowy things again!  I have been told numerous times by some of the "Old Timers" around here that swamp gas sometimes can play strange things against your mind. Swamp gas supposedly creates luminescent bubbles that drift up from the marsh edge and float for a distance before sinking. I have seen these.  At first, I assumed that I was observing some fantastic "glow-in-the-dark" bugs that were flitting about the Bayou.  Then there are the blue glowy things that are submerged beneath the murky waters.  These things slowly move about the mud in the shallows.  I am still not sure what those are!  Perhaps we have bioluminescent fishies swimming around under the pier!  This is not too far-fetched as it may seem.  Moon Jellies, those little jelly fish that glow when you touch them, are always floating about the Bay.  Still, some things just cannot be explained.  Others are easy.

I was on the pier when I noticed a bright blue glow against the marsh.  It was obviously something floating and not submerged.  The sun had already set so taking a picture was far out of the question.  The "object" merely glowed and could not be identified.  I was fascinated to say the least.  Knowing that there was to be little wind during the night, I was confident that this might be still near the pier at daybreak.  Sure enough, my glowy thing was still shining bright come morning. The half moon was enough to see blue but nothing else. I was excited!  I was going to solve the mystery!  At daybreak, I was a bit disheartened.  My exciting glowy was not some yet undiscovered new critter.  It was a can.  Some litterbug had tossed their can out in my Bayou!  Ugh!  That was not nice at all!

I tried to scoop the can out of the water but to no avail. It was far out of my reach.  All I could do is watch as it filled with water as the waves bounced it against the marsh. The can eventually sank to the bottom where it now sits polluting my Bayou.  Why, oh, why must people be so heartless?

Little Glowy Things!

The other day, I posted a few pictures of some sort of little glowy things that were floating around above the marsh. Whatever these "orbs" were, they would rise above the marsh to about thirty feet and then either disappear or slowly sink back down to marsh level. I still do not have a clue of what was in them that made them glow or even what I was seeing. I have gone back every evening since then and have not encountered them since. Perhaps this was some weather phenomenon or perhaps just swamp gas. (Or maybe I was right in guessing Will-o-the-Wisps!) Whatever..they have not reappeared since that evening. I will keep watch in the future, though, as curiosity always gets the best of me when it comes to the "unexplained"!

Tonight, there were glowy things! Not the same type of glowy things but glowy just the same. Hubby and I were on the pier quite late. I was trying to catch a redfish that was playing around near the shoreline and refused to give up until I ran out of bait. Those goofy crabs kept stealing my little mullet before the redfish had a chance to find it! Anyway, when we were on our way back up the pier, headed for the house, I spied "Glowy Number Two"! Only this time it was in the water! Halfway up the pier where it goes over the marsh, there is a sort of pond area. This is just a wallowed out area that the tide fills and empties at whim and usually contains all sorts of small fish and crabs. Tonight, however, there was something strange lurking beneath the water surface! Being as it was low tide, the pool was pretty nigh empty. The marsh clumps were protruding and there was quite the large mudflat. Near one of the marsh clumps, in about 12 inches of water, something was emitting an eerie blue glow. Now..was this the precursor of the glowy balls of light that bounced over the marsh grass? Or was this some sort of bioluminescent critter? I stopped to take a few pictures..whatever it was remained still. It was definitely under the water. Did I dare to poke at it with a pole? What if it was some sort of gaseous bubble that would spew who knows whatever all over me? I looked up..Hubby was heading toward the house. I looked at my "Glowy"..did I want to poke an unknown glowy thing while I was down here by myself? After dark? All alone??.........Sure! I searched for something to use as a poker..nothing handy...rats! I really wanted to poke that thing! Wait up! I'm coming! Goodbye, Glowy Number Two!

One thing about living on the Bayou, I am never short on interesting phenomena to keep me busy! I have lived here for many years now and I am always discovering new and unusual things..things that I sometimes cannot explain. Like I said..I will keep watch on the marsh! If any other glowy things appear..above the marsh or below the water..I will try to photograph them! Who knows..maybe someone out there will see the pictures and provide me with some answers!
