I am a cast iron skillet!

Have you ever noticed how some things just are personifications of someone? An item seems to so exactly describe a person that it when it is seen the person comes to mind. My nephew, Daniel, brought me the nicest gift from a recent trip he made to the mountains. The gift, he said, reminded him of me. It seems he was in a some shop and when he saw the item, it immediately made him think of me and the Bayou. I am supposing this is a good thing...maybe..because if the gift personifies me, then I am a cast iron skillet! Hmmmm?? I really could take this a couple of ways..some good...some bad.

Actually, the gift is the tiniest cast iron skillet that I have ever seen. It is perched up on a little stand that has a place for a candle. The skillet, itself, is made to hold scented wax chips or "wax tarts". Once the candle below is lit, it heats the skillet, melts the wax and fills the entire room with glorious aromas. I have other wax warmers as my Sweet Joanna (daughter-in-law) fills the Little Bayou House with such wonderful ones from the Yankee Candle Company, but this one is very special to me as well. Daniel has long been a favorite of mine. He never seems to find fault with anyone especially the "crazy old Bayou Lady"! Anyway, I lit the candle this evening and sat enjoying the scents of gingerbread while I thought of Daniel. Just how did this little skillet remind him of me?

I could possibly take the gift as a comparison to my hard-headedness! Perhaps the cast iron reminded Daniel of how set in my ways I can be! Or perhaps the ruggedness and usefulness of the skillet reminded him of how I live here on the Bayou. Then again..if I was really sensitive, maybe since it is an "old-style" utensil, it made him think of my age or the everyday usefulness of the "plain-old-cast-iron-skillet" tells of how I am not a "fancy" person. Hmmm? Not sure. I would much rather believe that when he saw the little skillet, it made him think of the pleasant times that he spent at the Little Bayou House. Times that he visited, fished from the pier or ate a hardy meal prepared in a..yes..cast iron skillet more oft than not. Maybe it just reminded him of his "home away from home"..or just the simplicity of life on the Bayou. Whatever..I adore my new wax warmer..and, yes...it even reminds me of me! Thank you, Daniel!
